Women's shoes for autumn: ankle boots, loafers or trainers?
Autumn in Morocco is unlike anywhere else: mild afternoons, cool mornings, and the first rains that turn a pavement into an ice rink. One pair isn't enough, but you don't need ten either. Three kinds of shoes cover almost every day: the ankle boot, the loafer and the trainer. Here is how to choose.
The ankle boot: the pair that makes the season
If you buy only one, make it this. A short ankle boot works with straight jeans, wide-leg trousers or a midi dress, and keeps the rain out without the weight of a tall boot.
What to check: heel height first. A 4–6 cm block heel can be worn all day; anything higher is for evenings. Then the sole: a lug or rubber sole keeps you from slipping on wet ground. Finally the shaft: if it stops just above the ankle, it goes with almost every pair of trousers.
Black and brown are the easiest. Beige and taupe lighten a dark outfit and look great with a modern caftan or an abaya. See ankle boots.
The loafer: effortless elegance
Loafers are back everywhere, and for good reason: they dress up a simple outfit in a second. With tailored trousers they mean office; with jeans and a shirt, weekend; with a long skirt, they replace a court shoe very well.
What to check: the material first. Faux suede is warmer and softer but dislikes rain; smooth leather or faux leather cleans with a wipe. One detail — a bow, a strap, a gold chain — is enough to make it more feminine. Choose it snug at the heel: a loafer that gapes can't be fixed with an insole.
See loafers and, for the same look but lighter, ballet flats.
The trainer: comfort for long days
For walking, taking the tram, running errands, nothing replaces it. A white or off-white trainer goes with everything, from joggers to a dress.
What to check: a slightly thicker sole cushions cobblestones better. Canvas uppers are lighter but less warm than faux leather. And if you want it to look smart, go for a low, plain trainer without a big logo: it then works with wide-leg trousers and a blazer. See trainers.
Getting the size right online
Sizes vary from brand to brand. Before ordering, measure your foot in the evening — it swells slightly during the day — from the heel to the tip of the longest toe, and compare with a pair that fits you well. Between two sizes, take the larger one for ankle boots or trainers (you'll add socks in winter), the smaller one for loafers or ballet flats, which give with wear.
What to budget
On MODEACC, trainers start at around 175 DH, ballet flats at around 150 DH, ankle boots and loafers at around 150 to 260 DH. Three well-chosen pairs cover the whole season for under 900 DH — and shipping is free from 500 DH.
Every product page shows its estimated delivery date: check it before ordering if you have a specific date in mind.
In short
An ankle boot for rain and evenings, a loafer to look elegant without effort, a trainer for long days. Three pairs that don't overlap are worth more than six that look alike.
